SOLDIERS' DAY.
Owing to the unsettled state of the weather, the organisers of "Soldiers' Day," in aid of the local Returned Soldiers' 'Association, have decided to forego the sports' gathering in the Recreation Ground, instead of which they will hold the most interesting events in the Town Hall, commencing at 2.30. The match between Desert Gold (16.4) and Biplane (15.10) will be run, also the travellers' famous Koon Kan Hack Race of seven fu*. longs. These two races are the funniest and most interesting competitions imaginable. The tug-of-war match between the local Maori champions and a team of Rata natives will also eventuate. There will be a variety entertainment of quite exceptional merit, including the latest songs and ragtime ditties, and an exhibition of dancing by Miss Reed, of Huntervillc. There is also another event which is bound to cause endless mirth and amusement, particulars of which' we are pledged not'to divulge. In the evening a concert and dance will be held, commencing at 7.45. There will appear for the first time an illusionist, in his wonderful trunk exhibition # In this act a man will be locked in an iron-,bound cabin trunk, securely tied with 45 feet of rope. From this box he will in five minutes release himself in a manner which has puzzled thousands of spectators. Nicomar (and his pal) will give a ventriloquial entertainment, unique in **s character. Mr. Wally Young, Palmerston North's premier comedian, and Mr. G. Bartrom will "comede" in firstclass style. The other contributors to the evening's entertainment will be A* K. Bradshaw (Wanganui), W. H. J. Reynolds (Wanganui), T. Smith (Taihape), and Miss Reed (Hunterville), champion Highland dancer.
