DUTCH TRAWLER TORPEDOED. Received S a.m. AMSTERDAM, June 12. The Dutch trawler Helena was tor. pedbed off the Dogger Bank, three oil the crew being killed. A LINER’S EXCITING EXPERIENCES. NEW YORK, June 11. Cabled advices state that the British transport Ausonia, hound to America, was torpedoed Ninety Ipf (the landed <at a British port. Forty aro missing. The captain of a trans-Atlantic liner reported that on Jun!e 'lst a Üboat appeared a short distance away The liner attempted to ram it, but passed over the submarine’s stern. Gunners dropped a depth bomb. There were 176 passengers at dinner. They were not allowed on the decks. On Juno 2nd a U-boat, disguised as a fishing-boat, approached close before being discovered. The liner changed her course and attempted to ram the submarine, but missed by six feet. The vessels drew apart," and the liner’s guns ripped away the conning tower of the U-boat, -which disappeared. Two hours later a convoy was signalled that a U-boat had been seen It raced in the direction indicated and dropped depth charges where the submarine submerged. NEW YORK, June 12. The Ausonia was one hundred miles in the Atlantic when she was torpedoed and sunk. * The survivors were picked up on an east bound steamer. The search for the 10 persons missing is being continued.
