MILITARY SERVICE. CALLING UP OF WAIKATO NATIVES. BALLOT TO BE TAKEN. WELLINGTON, this day. It has been decided to take a ballot of First Division Waikato Maoris within the next few days for the purpose of supplying reinforcements for the Maori Contingent serving in France, The ballot is only being applied to Waikato natives, for the reason that they have consistently stood aloof from voluntary recruiting all along, leaving it to the loyal natives to carry the burden. The machinery for taking the ballot is now complete The total number of First Division native reservists on the roll in the district affected is 420. Of these it is proposed to call up 200 in the forthcoming ballot. The following Special Native Military Service Board has been established: Charles E. MacCor- i mack, Judge Native Land Court; John Ormsby, Otorhanga; Pitiera Taipua, Otaki.
