BOWLING NOTES.
The Club Eink Tournament held any Labour Day was a pronounced suc,t?!*gß. and everyone present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The only drawback, was the boisterous wind which made: accurate bowling impossible, the conditions were perfect. The green, was playing exceptionally well and reflected great credit upon the caretaker A. Hollis. The thanks of the> club' arc due to Mesdames Bo} - d and Thurston who kindly dispensed afternoon tea. which was very much appreciated byall those present. Thirty-two players (8 rinks) entered, in the tournament in the tournament,, and the rinks were made up by the match committee as follows:—Boyd (s) Drayton, Dunn and Kiddick —Evans(s), Wham, Cunninghame and Powell— Clark (s) Stent, Marlow'' and Joblin— Fookes (s) de Luen, Law r son and McLaughlin' —McKenzie (s) Hesketu, Kinkade and Green —Neagle (s) Somerville, Dashwood and Ireland —Yarnam. (s) James, Loader and Joll —Wrightson (s) Cherry, Mortland and Parker. First Eound (10 a.m. Neagle beat Boyd on the 22nd head 21-17, Fookes beat Clark 21-15, McKenzie beat Evans 21-17, Yarnam beat Wrightson 20-15. Second Eound (1.30 p.m.) Neagle boat McKenzie 15-12, Evans beat Boyd Wrightson beat Fookes 15-11, Clark beat Yarnam 17-13, Third round (4 p.Qi.)—After a very exciting finish. Neagle beat Evans 9-S, Clark beat Wrightson 10.12, McKenzie beat Boyd. on the 15th head 11-13, Fookes beat Yarnam 11-9.
On conclusion of the day’s play the position of the various rinks was asunder: Wins Losses. Noaglc 3 0 Clark 2 1 Fookes 2 1 McKenzie 2 1 Evans 1 2: Varnam 1 2 Wrightson 1 2 Boyd . 0 3 Neagle therefore won the tournament rightout and the win was a popular one. The team deserved the honour as every individual member of. ,thq-.rink played well throughout - the day, | They generously- donated., the .trophies back to the. olub.ro .>pv.; a’aodjflsii; . The beginners playing ini;the various'* s. pinks all without cxeoj/:ion„ ■ , great t promise and many of them; will , doubtless be qualifying for inclusion in , inter-club teams before the close op the season. In the afternoon a practice rink game was also played which brought the total number of players on the green at one time up to 40. The Club has entered for this com- 1 petition as the centre authorities have, kindly consented to Taihape playing their three games in Wanganui on one ' , ' ° -:i Kf day. thus reducing the travelling to a , minimum. Our challenges have been accepted by both the holders of the 1 ‘ II urn ’ 1 and ‘ ‘ Kecsing” Challenge, Cups and the games will probably be played in Wanganui sometime next month.
