A WELCOME HOME.
A representative gathering of returned soldiers and residents of Taihape gathered last evening for the purpose of welcoming back to Taihape Quartermaster Sergeant S. Bason,. son of Mr and Mrs (T. Bason >o£ this town. Q.M.S. Bason left with the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force over three years ago and has been on active service ever since, which is a record to be proud of. Whilst in England, Q.M.S. Bason, amongst eight others, qualified as an ordance stores specialist, being sent to all the large military hospitals and Woolwich Arsenal for training. During the evening complimentary reference was made to the guest of the evening and congratulations to his parents and other members of the family on his safe return, which although not definitely settled as final, was nevertheless welcome to his family and friends. The guest of the evening suitably replied, acknowledging the good wishes expressed, and stating his pleasure at being once again, amongst his family and friends of Taihape. Mr. T. Bason, on behalf of Mrs. Bason and family, thanked those present for their presence at the welcome ho'ine to his son and for their appreciative remarks. During. the evening a lengthy programme of songs, dances, and recitations was rendered, all present contributing to the gaiety of the evening. A most pleasant function terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and “God Save the King.”
