Fifteen thousand square-miles of country are inundated. -ijfte French, British and Japanese authorities are making efforts to rentier assistance. HONOURS FOR NEW ZEALANDERS. Received 10.50. LONDON, Oct 11. The Military Cross has been awarded to Lieut. W. W. Cock, New Zealand Forces and Flying Corps for conspicuous gallantry and skill in attacking a Zeppelin. He ascended in a strong wind through a thick mist and low clouds, but eventually he had to give up the attack when 60 miles out to sea, and returned. He finished his .hazardous journey in safety, after 51 hours in the air. ITALIAN .TNCENDIARISTS. THREE SENTENCED TO DEATH. ROME, Oct. 10. Sergeant-Major Benatti, who was tried by court-martial, on charges of being for the blowing up of a factory in February, 1916, with great loss of life, and a ser?*B of vast incendiary outbreaks in Gen>|a, has been sentenced to imprisonment for life, His wife was acquitted His father-in-law and two hotel porters were sentenced to death. Another accused named Drovandi was sentenced to 20 years* imprisonment.
