Captivating and bewitching Lillian Gish, the famous heroine of D. WGriffiths’ spectacular masterpiece in. historical romance ,appears to-ni at the Three Stars, in a new and fascinating production by the Triangle Fine Arts Company under the direction of D.W. Griffith, entitled “Daphne and the Pirate.” It is a story of the
days when Louisiana was a French colony, and the bride ships of France sailed across the pirate-infested seas to (New Orleans, where girls were sold
at auction as wives for the French colonists. These days of wigs, powder and patches, duels and gallant love affairs, and ever ydetail of this en-
trancing romance Is historically accurate in the picturesque costume and setting of the period. The Griffith allstar cast includes Elliot Dexter, and the action of the story which abounds in thrilling incident and dramatic displays Lillian Gish at her best. See the pirates’ sea fight at night. This programme will be shown to-night only. To-morrow night Clara Kimball Young will appear in “Camille.”
EVERYBODY S. ‘ ‘ His Worship the Mayor, ” a Broadway feature in five parts will be finally screened at Everybody's t<2night. Their efforts ar e successful, and Lucas duly commences his municipal duties. The conspirators expect to make him their tool in furthering their selfish designs, but they are doomed to disappointment. In many different ways they persecute him in order to gain their ends, but all in vain. Supports include the final episode of the ; * Broken Coin ” serial and a sterling comedy
“A Race for Life.” The headliner for to-morrow’s new programme is a big Famous Flayers’ production entitled “The White Pearl.” It is a film done in the very best style by these producers, and ranks as one of the nest dramatic productions yet offered at this theatre.
NEW ENGLISH MUSICAL FARCE COMPANY. At the Town Hall on Monday next, the new English Musical Farce Company, direct from the Criterion Theatre, Sydney, present their screaming farce-*, comedy, “Never. Say Die,” which en-T joyed record runs of fourteen weeks in Sydney and ton in Melbourne to capacity business. That clever young English actor, Mr David Jefferson, who was associated with J. C. Williamson’s original production of this great comedy in Australia, plays the leading role of Dionysius Woodbury. He is supported by a strong company of" English actors many who assisted in the remarkable successes achieved in 'Australia. Many comedies have enjoyed popularity, but few, if any, as great and consistently as “Never Say Die.” Its three years’ run in New York and the success it subsequently met with in Australia has placed it upon a pedestal of popular approval, from which it will be a long time before it is replaced. It will be staged and mounted here on the same elaborate and complete scale as characterised its productions at the Criterion Theatre, Sydney. “Never Say Die” is said to be another of the typically American Farce Comedies depending principally on brisk action for its success, and on hurricane rash to cover its absurdities. The main idea is cleverly conceived, and an excellent foundation for fun-making. If the author’s object was to provide two and half hours of laughter and merriment for the audience, he has achieved it, since the play is a scream from curtaira. rise to fall. The box plan is now open at Sherwin’s, Stationer, and the reserves are 3/.
