EFFICIENCY BOARD
CLASSIFIED INDUSTRIES. THE PARTIALLY ESSENTIAL. WELLINGTON, May 16. The Government has now approved of the list of industries classed as partially essential by the National Efficiency Hoard. Under the heading of Class C a note attached states: “Occupations under this heading are deemed to be of secondary importance to those in Class B, essential industries. In this classification it may be found that a much smaller percentage of men will need to be excluded from military service than in Class B, but there will be some whose removal would imperil the successful maintenance of the industry or occupation, and in proved cases such men should be exempt. The list is.—Bacon factories, Bookbinding and paper-ruling, brass finishing, brick, pottery and clay works, brushmaking, building and contracting, cardboard box-making, cl\emical works, coal and wood merchants, elecfirkjal wiring and distribution, flaxmilling, foundries, gas distribution, general carriers, journalism, lime and cement works, mechanical engineering, manufacture of motor vehicles for commercial purposes, newspapers, paper-making, plumbing, printing, sail and tent-making, sawmilling, scan and candle making, taxis and motor cars for trading purposes, timber felling for military purposes, tinsmiths, tramway services, wholesale grocers, wholesale soft goods dealers, woodworking, and factories for building purposes.
