GERMANS’ NEW' TACTICS
THREATENING PETROGRAD.
PEROGRAD, April 20
The General Staff communicates that the Germans are concentrating naval and military forces cn the northern front. Numerous transports have assembled in Baltic porrs. Portion of the German fleet left Kiel for Danzig whence it proceeded to Libau. It is opined that th e Germans are contemplating a descent in the rear cf the Russian right flank in the neighbourhood of Finland, threatening Petrograd.

M. Miliukoff, addressing the Entente labour delegates, said RLssia was still faithful to her undertakings. She had aboslute faith in her allies and the triumph oT cause. She was determined to shatter obstacles preventing the exefrtion ,of ffiefr full strength, .

French official. —Arrivals for the week ended April 15 were 750, and sailings 803. Sinkings were four. Unsuccessful atacks were five.

BRITISH POLITICS TIMELY INTERJECTION. PEACE AND ‘ ‘ FRIGHTFULNESS. ’ ’ LONDON, April 19. In the House of Commons to-day Sir W. P. Byles asked whether, in view of the Anglo-French successes, the revolution in Russia, and the entry of the United States, the Government would reconsider its decision to convene a conference of belligerents to seek a settlement, as Germany had twice invited. Mr Swift McNeill (Nationalist member for South Donegal) interjected: ‘ ‘Won’t it bo time to consider peace when the Germans cease blowing up hospital ships?” (Loud cheers.) Mr Bonar Law: The interjection is a bettor answer than mine. The Government does not intend to initiate a peace conference.
A SECRET SESSION. MORE HOSPITAL SHIP LOSSES. LONDON, April 19. In the House of Commons, Mr Bonar Law stated that the Government was holding a secret session next week. The Budget would be delivered on April 30. Mr Bonar Law questioned regarding the torpedoing of hospital ships, said that it was inadvisable to. give information whether reprisals would be renewed at other places. Additional losses of hospital ships would be shortly announced.
GERMANY’S WAR LOANS
“THE LAST WAR LOAN.’’
AMSTERDAM, April 19,
German papers claim that the success of the war loan is a crushing defeat to America, though they admit that only one-fifth is new money. They describe it as the last war loan of the present war. The directors of the Reichbank state that the loan will" finance the war until next August.
