GERMAN MAN POWER.

DRASTIC MEASURES TO CONSERVE SUPPLIES AND LABOUR,

Under the Hindenburg-Groener regime in Germany, drastic changes are said to be imminent. It was recently reported that a great restriction of the railway service is to be expected, the ostensible reason being to conserve coal supplies. Now, however, the “Deutsche Kurier” declares that meas ures are being taken limiting travelling to passengers who have absolutely necessary business. This will have the effect of reducing the number of trains running very considerably. Other coming changes as suggested in the “Frankfurter Zeitung” will probably include the closing of musichalls. The schools which have already suffered so much will be maintained as far as possible, as education is an absolute necessity. With regard to the army, all ranks will be allotted to exclusively useful purposes. Officers servants and all superfluous orderlies will be done away with, and a great many technically skilled men at present employed on garrison duty will be sent back to their industries, to be employed on more valuable work. • • Poles who have escaped to Holland from working in German mines c:c clare that in addition to prisoners o' war many Belgian civilians are now employed in the mines, the numbers having especially increased recently.
