DUTY OFF FLOUR.
AN UNEXPECTED TNT A rather unexpected sequel to the re mission of uuty oil flour has occurred by the immediate raising of the price ol that commodity in Sydney by £1 15; per ton. As the amount of the duty re mitted i s £1 per ton. the consigners art apparently worse off than before. The Hon. G W. Russell, tv ho was in terviewed in Auckland on Saturday with regard to the matters remarked that he could not say much upon that point as the matter was iff the hand; of the Hon. W. U. S. Macdonald, ant: therefore any statement should he madt by that Minister. ”J may say, however,” added Mr Russell, “that tht Hon Mr Macdonald is keeping in very close touch with all matters connected with producing industries, particularly as they affect the cost of living. i
feel satisfied that any action ho takes will be accepted by the people of tht country as a whole as conclusive. Tlu
Government is doing everything pos sible in the direction of keeping down the cost of living, and in that connection the price of bread is a very important matter.”
