MATAROA NOTES.
SOCIAL AND DANCE. (Own A very enjoyable social and dance was held in the Mataroa Hall Hast Friday night, as a send-off to son, McCullough, and Shewan, who go into camp with the 18th Reinforcements. The hall was filled to overflowing with people from all parts of the district. During the evening Mr. Casey, on behalf of the people of the district, was called upon to make a presentation. During his speech he laid great stress on the seriousness of the great EuwS pean conflict, and appealed to all the eligible men of the district to come forward and enlist before* it was too late; not to shirk their duty, as bethought they were doing, not only in his district, but in many other parts of New r Zealand. He again pressed the eligible young men to come forward at once, and not wait to be forced. Mr. Casey then gave a little advice to the ladies, telling them to wait 12 or IS months to pick their sweethearts, and not marry the man who stayed at homo. In handing the boys a purse containing money he wished them all good luck and a safe return. The recipients duly responded in a few welllchosen words. ( Dancing was then indulged An and was kept up until the early hours of tho morning, to excellent music supplied by Mr. Midgley, of Taihape. Songs Svere rendered by Mr. Midgley and Mr. ’ Kidder, and a very sumptuous supper was supplied by the committee, and everyone k‘ft the building proud of the boys they were sending away. iSS ■
