A PERSEVERING LADY.
Mme. Celine Gheirte, aged 38, a seamstness living in the centre of Paris, is a living refutation of Brutus' creed that "life never lacks power to dismiss itself." Appearing in the local police court, after her fifth unsuccessful attempt to commit suicide, she was strongjy advised by the magistrate to make the best of a bad job and reconcile herself with life. Mme. Gheirte first tried to kill herself last siimmiT, when she jumped into the Spine, and was rescued struggling violently by a powerful swimmer. The chill gav 0 her pneumonia, but she soon recovered and hastened nound to the nearest chemist for some corrosive sublimate. The chemist foiled her snicidfi* with a packet of harmless salts.
