CAPTURE OF TAHURE.
A GREAT FRENCH FEAT.
GERMAN SECOND LINE LOSES STRONG LINK.
ALLIES' ARTLLERY READY FOR EVERYTHING.
(Times and Sydney Sun Services)
LONDON, October 9
Colonel Repington says the French are deserving of the heartiest congratulations on the capture of Tahure and the adjjoining hill. The Germans thought Tahure was invulnerable. The. much-vaunted second line has lost one cf it s strongest links. The statements that the Allies' offensive has failed is rubbish circulated to hearten the troops a.nd create a political effect in neutral countries. Tjhe German headquarters is welcome to its extra dance with Serbia if indulged at the cost of success on the Russian and French frosts. The Franco-Brtiish artillery surpassed themselves in the last attacks. With our heavy guns and howitzers we are able to blast our way anywhere. Modern artillery is able utterly to devastate the w|hole defended front and pave the way to a successful assault.
