BRITISH USE GAS.
GERMANS TASTE OWN POISON.
(Rec. 12.10 a.m.)
LONDON, October 10
A soldier's letter in the Cardiff Express states that in the recent battle the British attacked worn out with their exertions. The colonel ordered gas to be loosed to give the riflemen a chance. This was successful for a time, but, owing to the-rain, the fames kept low and did not disperse. When the British attached, the quarry they found that their shells had not penetrated the dug-outs. Swarms of Germans came out. The British fell back, and more gas was loosed. The British then plunged in, taking the quarry and 1,500 men, with six men.
