WAR PENSIONS.
APPLICATIONS GRANTED. The War Pensions Board held its second meeting in Wellington on Tuesday,, ■when it dealt with ten applications—four from disabled soldiers (the result of sickness in Egypt, not wounds), three from dependents of deceased soldiers, and three from dependents of deceased sailors.
One soldier, who applied for a partial disablement pension, was granted £1 per week, pending receipt of a further report from the medical boad.
Another eoldier who applied on account of partial disablement was granted £1 weekly until the end of the year, when his case will be further considered.
The ease of a third soldier, partially disabled, was held over until he ap-. pears before the board at its next meeting.
In regard to an application by a soldier who applied on account of total disablement, the board found that, under the circumstances of the case, it could not grant him anything. The widow of a sergeant killed in action on May 19th was granted the maximum pension for the rank of her late husband. —£70 a year. There were no children to be provided for. An application from the mother of a deceased trooper was refused, as her husband was amply providing for her.
The ■widow of a sailor killed in February last, was granted a penson of £65 on account of herself and one of £l3 on account of a child fourteen years of age —a total of £7B per annum.
Nothing was granted to the widow of a sergeant (killed in July) for her own benefit, but the board awarded her £l3 on account of each of throe children, or £39 a year. , The remaining two applications were from the father and the mother of a seaman killed in .action. The board found that they were not dependent on the deceased, but the case will be further considered after inquiry has been made concerning it.
