(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) The Wanganui Supreme Court sittings will open to-day before the Chief Justice, Sir Robert. Stout. Among the list of cases to be found interest centres in the trial of the young German, Arthur Rottmann, who will be charged with the recent murder of the McCann family at Ruahine. Rottmann has already been brought, to Wanganui, and is detained in custody. The full list of cases set down for hearing has already been published. AUCKLAND, Feb. 9. At the Supreme Court, Chas. Samuel Lake, charged with setting fire to the railway station at Tauranga, was found guilty. In consideration of his previous good character lie was sentenced to lie McKenzie, a postal servant, chargtwo years’ reformative treatment. Lesed with stealing postal packets, was admitted to the maximum period of three years’ probation. Ernest Adams was found guilty of incest, and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. DUNEDIN, Feb. 9. The criminal sessions opened this morning before Mr Justice, Denniston. Thomas Heatheriugton, aged 50, who pleaded guilty to assault, and causing actual bodily harm at Invercargill,was committed to probation for 12 months. Lincoln Russell Roberts came up for sentence cn a charge of opening a postal packet. It was stated that the prisoner had opened the letter from curiosity, as lie thought it contained a reference to him. He was a railway clerk at Orepuki, and only occasionally assisted in postal work. He informed his superior officer before complaints were made, that he had opened the letter. The judge said the act seemed more foolish than criminal, and ordered him to come up for sentence when called upon. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day At the Supreme Court,, Wm, Lawrence, 62 years of age, for indecent assault on a girl aged four years, was sentenced to two years. Frederick Thomas Bonham was sentenced to two years for indecent assault.
