CORRESPONDENCE.

THE AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

SOME EXCELLENT SUGGESTIONS. (To the Editor). Sir, —It was with great interest that I read your leader cf Saturday night, with reference to Agricultural shows. Taihape is undoubtedly a district where a first-class show is possible, {rjjS provided the farmers in the district as a whole will interest themselves in it. As you point out an Agricultural Show is promoted primarily with the objects of being a means cf displaying what the district in which it is held can produce in the way of stock, etc., and also as a means of bringing under the direct notice of the farmers the typical and best types of the various breeds of stock. To obtain the first object the whole hearted support cf the farmers, horseowners, fruit-growers, and last, but by no means least, the ladies of the district is necessary, and in order that owners of the best types cf stock may send exhibits it is necessary that some inducement be offered in the.shape of prizes. It is conceded that the first four or five years cf an Agricultural Society’s existence are the most precarious, and it is during these years that the wholehearted support of the community is necessary. Given this, and in a few years the Shew will be of such consequence that exhibitors will value an award at our Show quite as much as the monetary or other prize attached. But not only is the Show a benefit to the farming community for can be more to the advantage of those iu business tc have the town and district well advertised, and how can it be better done than by the report of a good Show which will circulate through all the principal papers in the colony both daily and periodical.

A poor district never has a good Show and a good district never had cue either without unstinted support. —Yours, etc., AGRICOLA,
