ELDERLY WOMAN’S INJURY
NOTE FOR MILKMAN SECURES HELP UNAIDED FOR 12 HOURS A lonely 12 hours’ of pain was suffered by Mrs. Annie Joseph Bath, until a note left for the milkman resulted in securing assistance, which was necessary owing to her having injured herself in a fall down some steps on Saturday evening. Mrs. Bath is an elderly woman, who lives alone at her home, where the accident occurred, in Panmure Road, near the Ellerslie boundary. The fall intensified a disability which had affected her legs, and it was almost impossible for her to stand upright, As she was Unable to call for aid, the only way of finding relief was to leave a note for the milkman.
With great difficulty the note was slipped under the door, and Mrs. Bath struggled into bed. When the message was found yesterday morning, Constable Riley, of Ellerslie, was called. He hurried to the house, and found Mrs. Bath in a state of collapse. He ordered an ambulance, which took the injured woman to the Auckland Hospital. Her condition this afternoon was reported by the hospital authorities to be satisfactory.
