The Gro3venor Private Hotel, owned by Mr. Ivan Black, at Matamata, containing 35 rooms, was burned to the ground this morning at 3.30 o'clock. Nine people who were in the house escaped in their night attire and saved a few personal effects.

The insurances are £2,000 on the buildings and £I,OOO on the contents, in the Royal Office.
