Soccer in Fiji
The fine game of Soccer has lately received a remarkable impetus at Davuilevu among the large contingent of young Fijian lads who attend the institutions there (says the Fiji “Times”). Hitherto most of the sport has been of the practice type; but now every Saturday many real matches arc fought out. One can tell that a change of some kind has taken place by the waves of shouting and cheering that can be heard easily from the Rewa Road. At the back of it all is the headmaster of the Teachers’ Training Institution. who has taken hold of the helm, and in less time than a dog watch has set every Soccer sail. All the rules of the road at play are now being observed: proper white goal posts have been erected, and the large crew of some 150 hands all told—divided up into 14 teams—has entered into the competitive games as jollily as seamen. I To win the shield, and to have their I names inscribed thereon, is now the vowed objective ofeach team. It is marvellous what a little organisation does! I
