"SHAMROCK V. A GREAT BOAT ”

For the last time before the America’s Cup contest tire Shamrock. V. raced on July 5 in British waters and at the finish was beaten by a narrow margin by the Lulworth. There was a strong breeze which suited the winner. The final verdict of yachting experts in England following Shamrock V.’s performance on the Clyde is that she is the best boat Sir Thomas Lipton has ever built to race for the America’s Cup and stands an excellent chance of taking it to England. Captain Ernest Heard of the Shamrock said:—“l am in love with the Shamrock; she is a great boat and it will be a 'good defender that will prevent me from bringing the cup back.” Captain Heard said he acquired much valuable experience since racing on the Clyde. He has discovered where he can effect an improvement in the Shamrock’s running gear and rigging and stated that both he and his men now know the boat thoroughly.
