TOO MANY REP. MATCHES
IN an effort to please everybody, the Auckland Rugby Union is faced with a serious disorganisation of its football. The climax was reached last Saturday when a representative team (representative in name only) was ignominiously beaten by "Waikato, and three out of six Pollard Cup games were won by default. The cause of most of the trouble is the big programme of representative games which Auckland fulfils, tt lias completely disorganised the game, and the Pollard Cup, never an unmixed blessing, lias made confusion worse confounded. Four years ago, the Auckland Rugby Union wisely decided to cut out the unsatisfactory South Island tour. But it is still cluttered up with too many representative games. Some of these ought to be weeded out. The Rugby Union’s first duty is to its own clubs. They should come before outside unions. There is 100 much interference with club football. The A.R.U. would he well advised to overhaul its list of representative fixtures next season. More than that, it would be better to try and complete the senior competition before sending teams on tour.
