“NOW CLEAN CITY”
POLICEMAN’S OPINION OF AUCKLAND MR. McILVENEY’S FAREWELL “Auckland is now a very clean city and there is an absence of serious crime. I think some credit is due to the police force for this,” said Inspector J. Mcllveney, who was given a farewell at the Central Police Station last evening. Mr. Mcllveney is leaving Auckland to take charge of the Wanganui police district. Mr. Mcllveney was presented with a travelling bag and case, a case of pipes, a cigarette holder and a fountain pen.
Inspector .1. Hollis, who presided over an attendance representative of all branches of the force in Auckland, said Mr. Mcllveney had been 36 years in the force and had proved himself a zealous officer, serving the public well. He had spent a considerable number of his years in tho force in Auckland and had won the esteem and respect of all. Good wishes, on behalf of their respective branches of the force, were extended by SubInspectors Gibson and Shanahan, Chief-Detective Hammond, Senior-Ser-geant. Flannigan and the sergeants in charge of suburban stations.
