MAN WITH BAD REPORT
AUCKLANDER GAOLED ARRESTED IN WELLINGTON Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Described by the police as an expert pick-pocket, John Standford Valvoi, alias Andrews, alias Reid, aged 31. labourer, was sentenced in the Wellington Police Court today to three months’ imprisonment on a charge of vagrancy. Sub-Inspector Ward said accused was a native of Auckland, and he had known him personally for a number of years. Accused made a practice of following race meetings throughout the country. He had apparently benefited by his experience in Australia and was regarded by the police as an expert pick-pocket. He had broken into a conversation between two men outside a garage and had brushed against one of them. When the man reached home he missed his watch. About a fortnight ago the Auckland police had inquired whether accused was in Wellington, as they had intended to proceed against him on a charge similar to that, before the court. The magistrate said the police report. concerning accused was thoroughly unfavourable.
