Sunken Treasure

WRECK OF EGYPT LOCATED

Has Gold Worth £1,600,000

DIVERS HOPE FOR EARLY SALVAGE

THE steamer Egypt, which was sunk eight years ago in a 1 collision with a French steamer off Cape Ushant, France, has been located by divers in 400 feet of water. The vessel had £1,600,000 worth of gold aboard when it sank, and high hopes are entertained of early salvage.

United I*.A.—By Telegra-ph—Copyright Heed. 12.20 p.m. LONDON, Monday. After long months of search, divers at Brest have located the wreck of the P. and O. liner Egypt, which sank after a collision with the French steamer Seine, about 25 miles off Cape Ushant, France, eight years ago. The Egypt lies at a depth of 400 feet.

The weather will probably preclude qfforts at salvage until next season. The divers found four hulks within a month in the area where the Egypt was known to have foundered, but the divers recognised the Egypt by her two funnels and her life-boat. The sea was so calm that the divers are hopeful of reaching the strongroom, in which there is £1,600,000 worth of gold.
