TO COMBAT CANCER
80 PER CENT. OF MONEY TO BE SPENT HERE MEDICAL VIEWFOINT ! According to a statement issued by the medical committee of the cancer 1 Campaign Society, SO per cent, of all 1 monev raised is to be used in this prov- ; ince solely in the promotion of efflciI ency in thq prevention, diagnosis and ! treatment of cancer. A maximum of i 20 per cent, may be voted to the Cen--1 tral New Zeealand Fund, which is controlled by a committee on which Auckland has one-fourth representation. The committee will, for the next two or three years, almost certainly allot portion of its money to finance laboratory
work, but medical opinion in this province at least is decidedly against the expenditure of much money in this direction. It is felt that research, so far as this country is concerned, may i well be left to the well-endowed instij tutions of large countries, where there l has already been speculation along this ; line for a number of years.
