QUEEN WILHELMINA OF NETHERLANDS
HOLLAND’S NATIONAL DAY
Tomorrow will be the 50th birthday of Queen V.'ilhelmina ot the Netherlands, and is the great national day of the people of Holland. Flags will be flown from the office of the vice-consul for the Netherlands, Mr. M. Copeland, but as the day is Sunday there will be no official calls and no reception o£ visitors, or interchange of courtesies.
Queen Wilhelmina is t lie daughter of the late King Willem 111, and o£ his second wife,Princess Emma. Queen Wilhelmina came to the throne at the youthful ago of 10, and came of age in 1898, in accordance with ‘.lie national custom, at IS, and was crowned in that year. She married Prince Henry of in 1901. The royal family of the Netherlands, known as the House of Orange, descends from a German, Count Walram, who lived in the 11th century. The present Queen’s father reigned 41 years, and died in 1890. There being no heir, he was succeeded by his only daughter Wilhelmina.
