FINAL TRIALS
EPSOM TROTTING WORK GRASS TRACK OPEN TODAY The Auckland Trotting Club this morning threw open the outside of the grass track at Alexandra Park and their action was greatly appreciated by trainers. The footing was holding after the heavy rain, consequently times were slow. A mile was Belle Axworthy’s portion and the mare, without being: asked for her best, ran the last half in 1.15. Direct Morning (W. Cockbill). Speed King (G. Stubbs) and Oekley "Wood (1,. Berkett) at intervals, covered a couple of circuits. Direct Morning showed 1.15 for the last four, while Berkctt’s trotter went an even mile at a 2.40 gait. After allowing Great Delight to get warmed up for a circuit. H. Garnett let him run home from the half-mile post in 1.19. A Useful Effort Warplane (C. Faroniali) stood Daplander (J. Shaw) and Country King (W. Tomkinson) up about four seconds from the mile disc. Over the final stages Warplane reduced the gap, but Laplander was first home, registering 1.14 2-5 for the last half. Explosion and The Abbey went solidly for a mile and a-half, the trotter making no mistakes and showing a 2.40 gait for the mile. Lady Ena. Golden T-Tuia, Tom Pepper and Prince Etawah were associated ip a mile bout. Tom Pepper broke early and Golden Hula left her feet when under pressure. Lady Ena tangled near the past leaving A. Shepherd’s pacer to finish in the van. The last half was run at a 2.44 gait. Gold Treasure gave Stoney and Windchat 36yds start in a mile essay. The grey pacer would not handle the going, and Gold Treasure was eased at six furlongs. Windchat went the distance in 2.42. Kelson Tasker (W. Brain; was sprinted in stages, giving a nice display when asked for a speed effort. * * * Kell a Dillon (A. Julian) went away from the mile post and after running along for four furlongs, came home the last half Jin 1.22. Ttolfe Audubon paced without a mistake over a mile and a-quarter. showing a 2.40 gait for the latter part of the distance. A Solid Task John Mauritius (W. Tomkinson), Grand Light (A. Bryce) and Evelyn Locanda (W. Nightingale) went away in that order from the 12-furjong post. The half-mile was reached in 1.21 and with a mile covered in 2.40 3-5 the two were in line. The pacers then drew to the front, Evelyn Locanda having a neck advantage over the Southerner at the box to register 3.53 for the journey. John Mauritus was 12 yards away. * * *
After covering half a mile in 1.17, Arachne improved in the next half four seconds, to finish up a mile task in 2.30.
Assisted by Man o’ Belle over the first four furlongs and Great Fame from that point home, Geo. Webb drove Great Vanity a mile in 2.39.
. Kelson Girl (A. Julian) and Lord Haldane (K. Morrison) were well clear of Surprise Journey (W. Tomkinson) when they left the mile peg. Nelson Girl broke several times and in the last quarter Lord Haldane left his feet and forgot to come down again. Surprise Journey went another half, which he covered in 1.17 3-5.
After breaking badly in the early stages. Cnrystal (A. Bryce), who was to go with Pavlova and Haroto, settled down to ifiace steadily over the last half-mile of his task a tick under 3.17. Pavlova could not handle the going and Haroto was eased in the last furlong.

WORK AT OTAHUHU
The grass track was again open at Otahuhu, where several useful tasks, without any attempt to record fast times, were accomplished. ♦ ■* * Stanmoor (S. August) proved too good for Kingsclere (W. Lincoln) at the end of a mile and a-half. The former paced with plenty of vigour and is in splendid heart. Gold Sovereign (S. August) and Sebisca (Geo. Mitchell) paired off for 12 furlongs, but the former left his feet early. Settling down, however, he was handy when the last half was entered, and Sebisca breaking a furlong from, home, Gold Sovereign had the best of it in the finish. * * * Working the reverse way Hal Chimes paced in his best manner over two circuits, winding up at a good clip. Master Huia (T. Grimmond) stepped attractively over s. mile, making very fair time in the final few furlongs. The little pacer is very well again. * * * On the clay track Great Ballin and Lady Yvonne. separately, infused plenty of dash into a useful task. The former is a very fit horse and the mare has improved of late. Floraline, by himself, gave an encouraging display of trotting over three laps on the grass. S. Groat has this candidate in fine fettle for the meeting.
Sunshower for Otahuhu That good mare, Sunshower, a daughter of Sungod, which last season won just on £I,BOO for the Auckland owner. Mr. D. R. Revell, has been purchased by Mr. Walker, of Papatoetoe, late owner of Master Huia and part-owner of Some Dillon. The mare, which has some good performances to her credit over all distances, will be trained by Tom Grimmond, the successful Otahuhu reinsman. It is pleasing to see more Auckland owners coming further into the game by securing good handicap horses, and Mr. Walker will have the best wishes of the light-harness fraternity for success with his new purchase.
