NELSON WINS TOURNAMENT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. By defeating Wellington College by 11 points to 5 in the annual intercollegiate tournament, Nelson College won the contest. Playing for the “wooden spoon,” Christ’s College and Wanganui Collegiate School drew, 14 points each. In the Wellington - Nelson game, Wellington drew first blood, Sadder going over and Carlson converting. Hooper then scored for Nelson, and half-time saw the position unchanged. Nelson took the lead with a penalty goal by Newman. Just on time. Buttress scored for Nelson, and Newman converted.

In the second game Christ's College scored first, Rolleston getting over, but within a rew minutes Innes equalled for Wanganui. With another try by Innes, converted by Glendining, Wanganui took the lead, which was reduced when McCracken landed a penalty kick for Christ’s College. Kemp then scored for the visitors, and McCracken put over another penalty for the local side, making the scores 11 —9 in Y-anganui’s favour at the interval. Shortly alter resuming, Coleman scored for the visitors, and a few minutes later Kerr scored a try for the home side, which McCracken converted, thus equalling the score.

The standard of play in both games was excellent.

Next year’s tournament will be played at Wanganui.

( SOUTH ISLAND COMPETITION j Press Association INVERCARGILL, Monday. The annual South Island secondary schools’ Rugby tournament commenced today in brilliant sunshine, and before a large attendance. In the first match Otago Boys’ High School defeated Christchurch Boys’ High School by 14 points to 3 after a rather disappointing display by botli teams. The second match was exciting and spectacular. Southland Boys’ High School gaining a meritorious victory over Timaru Boys’ High School by 7 points to 5. Southland, after being down 6 to 0 until well on in the second spell, managed to snatch a victory by scoring an unconverted try and a potted goal. Each team threw the ball about freely. The tournament will conclude on Thursday.
