RIFLE SHOOTING
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB The final shoot for the winter service trophy was fired by the Auckland City Defence Rifle Club on Saturday. Eive rounds application and six rounds at the moving figure were fired at 200 yards and at 300 yards. The practices were seven rounds rapid in 25s and seven rounds at the snap shooting disc. H. Simmonds again shot brilliantly from scratch, while R. McLeay was only three points behind him off the rifle. The competition resulted in a tie between these two and tho former won the trophy in the shoot-off. McLeay won the spoon and was a trifle unlucky in striking such a fine shot as Simmonds at the top of his form. Results, with handicaps added, were as follow;—R. McLeay, 100; H. Simmonds. 95; C. Wright, 92; C. J. M. Clark, 88; C. Ginn, So; C. H. Hirst, 78; S. C. Wells, 78; C. Robieson, 76; A. Sommerville, 67. A. match with a naval team has been arranged for September 20.
KING’S PRIZE WINNER
PERTH, Monday. At a rifle-shooting meeting at Perth N. Schlam. aged 21, won the King’s Prize for Western Australia, with a score of 329. O. Tarrant was runnerup, with a total of 323.
