CATOMA’S FIRST

BEATS FIELD HANDSOMELY The success registered by Catoma at Ellerslie over the week-end marked the first win of the four-year-old since he commenced racing as a juvenile, and from the manner in which he routed the opposition at the finish it will be surprising if he fails to chronicle further victories during the season.

Much of the improvement shown by the Catmint gelding is due principally to the painstaking methods employed by his trainer, J. E. Thorpe, whose patience and perseverance has at last led to success. Catoma is a very big gelding, after the stamp of Sir Russell. and as he comes from a family of stayers there is a big chance of him developing into a handicap horse. T 1 is dam. Loloma, was represented on the turf in late years by that successful, mare, Lornint, winner of the Cornwall Handicap and other good races.
