WORK FOR THE SICK

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY BUSY REPORTS FROM ALL BRANCHES Luring July the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary depot distributed 1,659 garments to 112 families, and 37 families were given food orders. Of this number 290 garments were contributed by the City sewing circle, and 34 by the Mount Eden branch, in addition to a number distributed by their own committee. The Birkdale Women’s Institute also sent in a parcel. This work was reported by the secretary at a meeting of the Auxiliary Council this week. Mrs. Alfred Kidd was in the chair, and there were 17 members of the council present. Mrs. Wettenhall reported that the Ways and Means Committee had organised a bridge party during the month in aid of the funds, and members had given assistance with other activities. Mrs. Potter reported on the work of the Mount Eden branch, whose members visit the hospital and also the homes of sick and needy folk. Mrs. Chapman, secretary of the Onohunga branch, reported that their activities had been carried on as usual. Members meet weekly t*> sew and mend at the Infirmary, where they also distribute books and papers and sweets to the inmates each month. A very enjoyable concert was given in the wards and was much appreciated. Mrs. Tiarks reported that her motor excursion committee have taken the patients for their usual weekly drives. Twenty-five patients were taken to their homes during the month by Mrs. Murdoch Smith’s committee. Mrs. Hammond Hyde reported on her purchasing and distribution for the month, and also on her work as organiser for the Auxiliary. Mrs. Nutter, secretary of the junior branch, reported on the work done by this band of young workers, who have been busy finishing up their work for St. Helens Hospital before closing for the holidays, and will carry on again when the schools reopen. The visiting committee, with Mrs. Pankhurst as convener, have visited the hospital each week distributing comforts and reporting cases in need of help.
