WOMEN’S PROGRESS CLUB

WEEKLY MEETING The weekly meeting of the Women’s Progress Club was held at the Higher Thought Temple, corner of Wellington and Pitt Streets, on Wednesday afternoon, and took the form of a debate on whether women police were advisable or not. A large audience was unanimous in the opinion that, as women, while not wishing to usurp the rights of men—were now ready and willing to take an equal share iri all administration, and they should be appointed to deal with ail matters concerning women and children. The title of policewomen should be substituted by that of "women guardians,” as most of the work to be done by them would be rather of a preventative nature than that of a punitive one.
