BRIDGE BATTLE AT CLUB A very pleasant bridge party Was organised by the Bridge Committee on Thursday afternoon in the lounge of the Lyceum Club. ilton Branch of the Federation of University Women on Wednesday afternoon in the Circles Room of the Lyceum Club, a very interesting talk was given by Mrs. Victor Macky, of Auckland. Her subject was, “The Economic Position of Women.” She spoke particularly of the laws relating to property and the custody of children, and earnestly advocated the 50-50 policy as being the only sound basis of happiness in modern life. PLAY READING On Tuesday evening the Play Reading Circle of the Lyceum Club had a very enjoyable evening’s reading of that three-act comedy “At Mrs. Beams,” by C. K. Muiiro. The parts were very well cast, and the atmosphere of the boarding house, and its typical inhabitants, was caught by the readers. The parts were read as follow: Mrs Shoe, Mrs. Scrimshaw: Mrs. Bebb.
