WATER FOR MT. WELLINGTON

APPROVAL BY LOANS BOARD The Mount Wellington Road Board has received advice that the Local Government Loans Board has approved of the loan of £30,000 for the water supply scheme, prepared by Mr. E. V. Blake, consulting engineer. The term of the. loan has been fixed at 30 years and the Loans Board requires a sinking fund of lb cent. The scheme has been designed to give a maximum of efficiency at the least possible cost to the ratepayers and provides for domestic supplies in addition to reasonable fire-fighting facilities. It is proposed to connect with the city supply at Lake Road and lay a six-inch main through the centre of the district to the Otahuhu boundary, and a further lead toward Panmure to enable that district to join the scheme at a later date. A system of four-inch mains pro vides for the complete reticulation of the district with supplies to every house, the volumes and pressures being very satisfactory throughout. It is anticipated that the various industrial works at Westfield will welcome the opportunity of linking up with the city supplies. A poll of the ratepayers will be taken about the second week in September, and if the proposal is carried. Mr. Blake anticipates being able to have the supply available to the residents by about the middle of next January.
