EAST COAST FLOODS

CAR SERVICES DISORGANISED From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Wednesday. A heavy southerly gale raged between Gisborne and Opotiki yesterday and last evening. Motor services have been completely disorganised as a result of the flooding of the Otoko and Walkohu Streams. Yesterday afternoon cars from Opotiki could not reach Gisborne. This morning the flooded streams again prevented through services being maintained, passengers having to travel from Gisborne to Motuhora by rail, where the cars brought passengers on to Opotiki. There is a prospect that cars may be able to cross the streams late this afternoon, and normal services should be able to resume tomorrow, the gale having abated.
