DEVONPORT LEAGUERS

PROTEST OVER RICHMOND MATCH A.R.L. EXECUTIVE MEETS A protest by the Devonport United Football Club over the refereeing of its. match in the senior grade against Richmond on Saturday was lodged at the meeting of the Managament Committee of the Auckland Rugby Football League last evening. Richmond won the match by one point in the dying stages of the day, after Devonport had been leading throughout the game. The Devonport Club asked that the match be replayed, but the chairman. Mr. George Rhodes, stated that under the circumstances there was no rule by which the Management Committee could order a replay. The North Shore delegate stated that the question was a serious one, and he indicated that as a result of the expressed intention of certain players to “turn the game in,” Devonport might find it hard to field a team in the future. The Management Committee’s decision was along the lines of the suggestion of the chairman. Following is the draw for senior grade matches to be played on August 2: Senior Grade A.— City v. Marist, Carlaw Park No. 1, 3 p.m.; Klngsland v. Richmond, Carlaw Park No. 1, 1.45 p.m.; Ponsonby v. Newton, Carlaw Park No. 2, 3 p.m.Devonport v. Ellerslie, at Ellerslie. Senior Grade B.—Richmond v. Otahuhu, Grey Lynn Park; Mangere v. Mount Albert, Mount Albert; Northcote v. Point Chevalier, Point Chevalier.
