COMPENSATION SETTLED

STEAMSHIP COMPANY SUED A settlement of the claim for compensation by Leslie Francis St. Clare D’Almeida against the Northern Steamship Co., Ltd., was announced to the Arbitration Court today. The plaintiff claimed compensation as executor of the estate of Jacintho St. Clare D’Almeida, who died in hospital two days after he was struck on the head by a number of boards which were being hoisted from a hold of a ship, which he was assisting to unload, on November 18, 1929. Mr. Jordan, for the plaintiff, stated that the amount of compensation had been agreed upon, and the question of dependency had also been settled. Mr. Cocker, for the defendant, consented to judgment, which was entered for plaintiff for £9OO. including costs. A further application relating to the allocation of the compensation was allowed to stand over, the filing of an affidavit concerning the competency of the widow to administer the estate.
