TRUCK BREAKS AXLE

DELAY TO WHANGAREI EXPRESS THREE HOURS OVER TIME From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. The Auckland-Whangarei express, due at Whangarei at midnight, did not arrive till 3 o'clock this morning, as the result of an accident near Taipuha. As the train was nearing Taipuha the engine-driver noticed sparks showering from the wheels of one of the trucks. The train was immediately brought to a standstill, and investigation showed that the axle of a loaded coal truck was broken and it was impossible to eontiuue. A gang was summoned and the truck jacked from the rails, causing much delay. Had the driver not noticed the fault it is difficult to say what would have been the outcome, as the truck immediately behind the damaged one was carrying a full benzine tank.
