NATIONAL WAR FUNDS

EXPENDITURE EXCEEDS INCOME UNEMPLOYMENT COSTS Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. At a meeting of the National War Funds Council, it was stated that the expenditure last year for the first time exceeded the income, mainly because of disbursements for the unemployed of £5,060 and tho fact that transfers were low. The Imperial ex-soldiers in New Zealand received £7OB. Bequests were received to tho amount of £1,265, besides a few donations. It was reported that since July, 1927, £14,370 had been expended for the relief of unemployment, The council was unanimous that it was thoroughly justified and authorised a further £5,000 this year. It was decided to investigate the position of the Auckland Veterans’ Home, the upkeep of which was a great drain on the local patriotic association and to afford help if it was considered desirable.
