MOTORING MISHAP
MAGISTRATE’S CAR RUNS ON FOOTPATH RIM WRENCHED OFF Caught by the greasy roads that have beeu the downfall of so many motorists during the last few days, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., had a thrilling experience when driving his car down Symonds Street this morning. Mr Hunt had followed a new route to avoid a dangerous piece of road at. the top of Eden Terrace. Accelerating to pass a car in front of him, Mr Hunt suddenly felt his car slip on the road. It spun completely round. After slithering, crab-fashion, along the slippery surface of the street, the car ended up at right-angles to the footpath, with the back wheels over the kerb. The rim of one of the rear wheels had been forced off and it was not possible to drive the car away. A feature of the incident was that, while Auckland’s' popular police magistrate was waiting for the repair gang, practically every passing motorist recognised him and was profuse in offers of assistance.
