LABOUR AND UNITED

REFORM MEMBER ALLEGES PARTNERSHIP INDICATIONS IN SPEECH THE Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Thursday. That the speech of Mr. M. J. Savage, deputy-leader of the Labour Party, indicated the strength of the partnership between tbe Government and Labour was the claim made by Mr. A. M. Samuel (Reform —Thames) in the Address-in-Reply debate this evening. “It must be a humiliating partnership for one side,” lie said, “and very enjoyable for the ether.” The speech of Mr. Savage, said Mr. Samuel, showed exactly where Labour stood in relation to the Government. It was another link in the partnership, but with a motion of no-contidence before the House one would expect Labour to indicate the extent of its lack of confidence. Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour —Auckland Central): There’s plenty of time yet. Mr. Samuel continued that one had only to read the Labour speeches to know of the partnership, which mus*t be very humiliating on one side, and very enjoyable on the other —enjoyable except to those Labour members who were fretting at the leash, and feeling that they were jettisoning their, principles. (Labour laughter.) It was very difficult for a party to throw overboard its principles and go unscathed. (Hear, hear.) However, Labour would be judged by its actions.
