MT. EDEN’S SEWERAGE
COMBINED SYSTEM RESULTS IN BIG SAVING SUM OF £335,000 SPENT Now approaching completion, the sewerage system of Mount Eden has been an exceedingly difficult undertaking, involving heavy expenditure, which, however, has been warranted and reproductive. This view was expressed by the engineer in a report to the Borough Council last evening, when the proposed loan of £95.000 for extensions to the system was under consideration. The proposals, which are now being considered by the Local Government Loans Board, are for the construction of sewers between William Street and Balmoral Road, and between Halesowen Avenue and Calgary Street. The engineer was congratulated by the Mayor. Mr. E. IT. Potter, upon the success of the drainage scheme, which, be claimed, had not only saved the ratepayers a large sum in house connections. but it would save the borough £50,000 or £60,000. The council had waited years to complete the work, he added, and the undertaking of further extensions now was one of the reasons for increasing the rates this year. To date the council had spent £335,000 on extensions to the sewerage system, Mr. Potter said.
