TE AROHA TOPICS
GOLD DAY FOR SPRING RACING TAURIMU AS JUMPER Special to THE SUN TE AROHA, Friday. Trainer A. E. Cox has taken a lease of a rising two-year-old filly by Sandstar —Waipoto, from Mr. James McNicol. She will be brought in this week, handled and put into work before the winter has much further advanced. With the exception of a somewhat swollen knee, Black Maire now shows no signs of the setback he experienced recently. Miss Albyn, in the same team, is putting more vim into her work than before, and it would appear that she is improving under the work allotted her. Glenison has been sent along this week, in view of the Waipa meeting, but may find 10.5 plenty to carry, as she is not built on weigh t - carry in g lines. G. Reid's working team, Valstreet, Glenstar and Marble King, are doing nicely, and when they again line up in public should acquit themselves satisfactorily. Marble King is more lusty in condition than usual, and may race well, like this. Valstreet is of the light-hearted order, and thoroughly enjoys his track work. He may be seen out at the Waipa meeting next week. and. if so, it will be seen whether he can gallop fast with welter weights. Sir Russell is in regular work and is moving freely in the tasks allotted him. The Weathervane filly and Lucullus gelding are both growing, but there is no fault to find with their track work. The New Plough The newly-formed plough track is now being used, and being a mile and six chains, is proving useful for long work. It is providing going of an even nature, and as it is harrowed every day, is a boon to trainers. Horses worked on it this morning were Gold Day, Marble King, Valstreet, Glenstar, Black Maire, Indolent, Glenison, Miss Albyn, Lucullus—Miss Floss gelding. Sir Russell, and the Weathervane—Panama filly. Gold Day ranks as one of the nicest movers on the tracks, and carries weight well. Being kept in work throughout the winter will stand to him well for early spring racing. Taurimu is being kept in easy work. Having proved that he can negotiate timber in good style, the Quin Abbey gelding may be put to jumping next season. A chetsnut gelding by Tribulation has joined Trainer G. Reid’s team, and on appearance may prove to be a worthy addition. He was bred in the Hawke’s Bay district, and, being on the small side, was turned out for a lengthy period. He grew up very materially, and now looks like making good. The fact of Volimond figuring in the list for the Takapuna and Wynyard Plates would point to Mr. P. A. Swney deciding to race the Limond filly again next season. This season she raced unluckily, while her track work was uniformly consistent. She may redeem her failures next season when Honiton may also be even a better filly, by reason of the extra The To Awnmutu track is likely to suit White Ringlet. who is speedy enough to get a position early in the race. Sho has freshened up of late, and may be all the better for it. The Archiestown gelding. Thanks, has qualified for hunters’ events, having followed the hounds in the Cambridge district. She will probably be racing at the Waipa meeting next week. Taumai is none the worse for liis three races at Ellerslie this month, and will be in good trim for the Wellington meeting.
