GRAY AND ELLIS

\ E. ELLIS rode three winners at Washdyke on Thursday, and this brought him up to within three of H. Gray's lead of 64 successes. Yesterday, at Hastings, Gray got home on Best Friend, and he now has an advantage of four over Ellis in the race for the jockeys’ premiership. Today Gray has more rides at Hastings, but it is probable that by sunset Ellis will have crept still closer. The crack Southern horseman has some choice mounts at Washdyke today: Glenrowan, Ranelagh, Inevitable, Desert Song (four that will go very close to winning), Meitui and Last Mark. After today’s racing it is possible that Ellis will be within one or two of Gray's score of 65.
