DRINKING AT DANCES

FRANKLIN COUNCIL’S VIEWS From Our Resident Reporter PUKBKOHE, Wednesday. “It is a notorious fact that.there.is au alarming increase in the amount of drinking at dance halls generally by both young men and women.” This statement was made by Cr. J. Henry at the Franklin County Council meeting today, when a circular letter was read from the New Zealand Grand Lodge of Good Templars regarding drinking at dances and cabarets. Cr. H. Wilcox remarked that he had not seen a drunken man for five years. Another member (facetiously): Well, you don’t go about at night. Cr. M. Aldred said most of the drinking did not take place in the hall, but in cars outside. Therefore, it was a question for the police.
