OPENING IN WELLINGTON BOBBY CALF PROBLEM Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Dominion conference of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was opened by the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, today. Colonel Mitchell, president of the Wellington society, occupied the chair. Mr. Stall worthy expressed the hope that the society's activities would extend and extend. The problem of bobby calves was discussed at length and a motion was carried that the executive should take steps in conjunction with the Farmers’ Union and any other bodies concerned to urge the Government to pass legislation along the lines of having the calves tagged, that they should be paid for according to quality and that the lorries on which they were carried should be divided into compartments.
