FINALS AT ADDINGTON

Travis Axworthy and Logan’s Pride Reach High Society HAROLD LOGAN’S FINE WIN Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Today. IN fine weather, before a large attendance and on a track that was in great order for speeding, the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's winter fixture reached finality yesterday. In winning the King George Handicap and getting within the prescribed time-limit for the New Zealand Cup, Travis Axworthy put up a splendid performance, while the greatly improved Logan's Pride added further to his laurels by tramping 4.26 1-5, qualifying for the Auckland Cup.

As on the opening day, many placed competitors knocked corners off their handicap times. In the mile and ahalf trot St. Petrox won from 3.37 In 3.30, while in the longer event for square-gaiters. New Metford. created a surprise by clipping 10 l-ssec off his handicap. Travis Axworthy registered 4.24 4-5 from a 4.29 mark, while Logan’s Pride, handicapped on 4.34, recorded 4.26 1-5, a rattling good effort. There was a decrease in the betting of £6,225 for the meeting. The machine handled £34,401 for the day, against £38,238 for the second day last year. The figures for the carnival reached £58,715, against £64.940 in 1929. White Satin’s New Record Fifa, White Satin, and St. Petrox were the public selections for the Progressive Trot. St. Petrox won in good style, staying on against strong challenges from Gemllght and White Satin in a fast-run race. Gemlight and White Satin were both slow to settle to their work, but over the last mile they gave finished displays. White Satin was forced to lower her own Australian and New Zealand record for a three-year-old of 3.31 4-5 to 3.27 3-5 and she is undoubtedly the greatest three-year-old trotter New Zealand has seen. Flfa was very unlucky as she probably would have won but for being interfered with, which caused her to break three furlongs from home. Harold Logan a Good One Lydia, Editor and Harold Logan were the best-backed for the Harewood Handicap. Harold Logan proved himself an extra good one by winning confidently in the excellent figures of 3.19 2-5 from 3.28. He is plainly destined for the best company. Country King went his best race since leaving Southland, and he only needs to train on to be an early winner. Brentlight finished on with a rattle and had Lydia well beaten over the last part. The favourite had every chance, but was found wanting In stamina. The others were outclassed. Travis Axworthy Stays Best Travis Axworthy, Linkman and the Carmel—Quality bracket carried most money in the King George Handicap. Travis Axworthy removed all doubts about his staying powers by coming away over the last 100 yards to win well, after Linkman had actually headed him. He was never farther back than second, and when Maiwhariti had drawn out to a six lengths’ break three furlings from home, he settled to the task of overhauling him in game style. It was a big job, but the American horse had accomplished It before the straight was reached, where danger from Linkman loomed up for a while. Travis Axworthy had the mastery but then Linkman had his measure and momentarily it looked like the favourite's downfall. However, he responded well under pressure and came way again to beat Linkman by a good length. Jean McElwyn finished well Into third place, and Carmel was at the head of the others. The last half was run in 1.2, which was a real test of stamina.

was lucky in just geting clear of the tangling June de Oro, who fell half a mile from home, bringing down Fair Wave, and interfering with Purser, Baynut and Sonoma. From then on the favourite was always going like a winner, outstaying Rey Logan and Granite City in the race to the judge. Eugene de Oro-Omaha bracket was the elect of backers for the Advance Handicap, with good support for Native Prince and Tony Victor. After the start Eugene de Oro lost his position, and at the entrance to the straight in the run home Steel All was leading Tony Victor, Kid Logan and Final McKinney. Then Great Logan and Vendome came very fast, and the former prevailed by a neck from Vendome with Kid Logan two lengths away third. Tony Victor and Native Prince were next to arrive. Favourite Beaten Rey Logan was fancied for the Telegraph Handicap over the Proud Dillon-Avenger bracket. Proud Dillon led all the way, lasting out well against a strong challenge from Rey Logan, to gain half a length verdict. He was right at home over the distance. Rey Logan, having his second outing, came fast over the last quarter, and better placed at the half-mile, he would have pushed the winner. Nelson McElwyn was the surprise of the race, being always with the leaders, and hanging on well for a commendable third. Royal Comrade was the best of the others. Vecto Surprises Three furlongs from home in the mile saddle Sahib fell and brought down High Jinks. By the time the straight was reached Kotuku Jack was leading Vecto, Return Voyage and Avonwood. Vecto did best in the run to the judge, beating Kotuku Jack by a length, with Avonwood two lengths away third. Then came Return Voyage. Bob Logan and Sylvie Logan lost their chances at the start. Avonwood and Sahib were the chief fancies, and the winner was at a good figure. Results are as follow: — Progressive Handicap, of £175; unhoppled trotters, limit 3.38; 1* miles.—3 St. Petrox, Miss R.
