THAMES-HAURAKI ASSOCIATION FIRST ANNUAL MEETING From Our Own Correspondent Among the women of the Thames and Hauraki Plains, basketball has always had a strong hold, but until last July there had been no controlling body, and matches were more or casually arranged. However, the initiative was forthcoming and an association came into being. This body has just held its first annual meeting, at which delegates representing clubs as far away as Coromandel and Mercury Bs.y present. The report showed that the association was in a sound position. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P.; president, Mr. L. CrawfordWatson; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. Labarre, J. Edgar, and R. E. Hunt and Mrs. Russell; hon. secretary and treasurer, Miss E. Causlej. ; executive, Misses A. Richards, W. Russell, P. Brown, K. Labarre, S. Murray, E. O’Meara, D. Brown. R. Barbalich and W. Graham; delegate to the Auckland Basketball Association, Miss Gladys Mann. Reaffiliation with Auckland was decided upon and it was resolved to apply for an annual home and home match. The new season will be officially opened with a five-a-side tourney on May 31. At a meeting of the executive it was resolved to institute a competition for primary school teams open to schools in the counties of Thames, Coromandel and Hauraki Plains.
